My Story
My
relationship with the hula hoop started a few years ago when a hoop
ended up in my room after a party. We looked at each other for a
few days. I was in the middle of writing my senior thesis and was spending
hours upon hours sitting in front of my computer. I didn't think that I had
time for fun.
Eventually
the bright colors of the hula hoop overcame me. I decided that I should take
a break from my thesis and take it for a spin.
In the back yard under the stars, I fell in love with the hoop.
I started out slowly at first, nothing fancy. I would hoop for about ten minutes
and then go back to the computer feeling rejuvenated. It
was a real treat to be outside and to get my heart pumping while doing something
fun.
Soon, I was able to move around while hooping. I started to find different
hoop tricks online and would then use my ten minute breaks to try out different
moves. I enjoyed the feeling of accomplishment when, after
several days of working on something new, I could do it!
The more I learned, the more I wanted to learn and the more time I ended up
hooping. My body became more toned and I felt more confident
in my appearance.
I loved this new part of my life so much that my hoop and I became inseparable.
I took it with me everywhere I went. It always made a party more fun
and it was a great conversation piece.
I also really enjoyed the act of sharing that was implicit
in hooping. I liked feeling like a kid again! This was a fun toy and I didn't
want to keep it all to myself. I decided that I needed to share this
wonderful experience with as many people as possible, so I started
making and selling hoops!
I have met so many new people and made so many of them smile, simply by letting
them play with a hoop. I think the world would be a better place if
more people were taking a few minutes here and there to hoop. And
so, I wake up each day and go to work . . .
